Dean Barkley, born on August thirty-first, nineteen fifty, is a notable American attorney and politician. He is best recognized for his service as a United States senator from Minnesota, a position he held from two thousand two to two thousand three as a member of the Independence Party of Minnesota. Barkley was instrumental in founding the Minnesota Reform Party, which later became known as the Independence Party, and he played a pivotal role in Jesse Ventura's successful campaign for governor in nineteen ninety-eight.
Following the tragic death of Senator Paul Wellstone in a plane crash shortly before the two thousand two election, Governor Ventura appointed Barkley to fill the vacant Senate seat. His time in the Senate was brief, concluding when Republican Norm Coleman was elected and sworn in.
Barkley's political ambitions have seen him run for office on four separate occasions. His initial foray into politics was inspired by Ross Perot's presidential campaign in nineteen ninety, leading him to run as an independent for Congress in Minnesota's sixth congressional district. He later sought a Senate seat three times, participating in the elections of nineteen ninety-four, nineteen ninety-six, and two thousand eight, where he garnered five percent, seven percent, and fifteen percent of the vote, respectively.
