Debra Anderson

Debra Anderson is a talented Canadian novelist and playwright, recognized for her contributions to LGBTQ literature. In 2009, she was honored with the Dayne Ogilvie Prize from the Writers' Trust of Canada, celebrating her as an emerging voice in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender literary community.

A graduate of York University's creative writing program, Anderson has made her mark with notable works such as her novel Code White, published in two thousand five, and the play Withholding. Her writing has been featured in several anthologies, including Bent on Writing: Contemporary Queer Tales (two thousand two) and Persistence: All Ways Butch and Femme (two thousand eleven), showcasing her unique perspective and storytelling prowess.

In addition to her literary achievements, Anderson has contributed to various periodicals, including Fireweed, Xtra!, and The Church-Wellesley Review. While at York University, she received the George Ryga Award for the best play written by a student, further solidifying her reputation as a gifted playwright.

Anderson's creative endeavors extend to film, with her short animated film Don't Touch Me premiering at the Inside Out Film and Video Festival in nineteen ninety-eight. She is also the driving force behind Get Your Lit Out, a reading series in Toronto that champions local women writers, fostering a vibrant literary community.
