Dee Rees

Dee Rees, born on February seventh, nineteen seventy-seven, is a prominent American film director and screenwriter celebrated for her impactful storytelling and unique cinematic vision. She gained widespread recognition for her feature films, including the critically acclaimed Pariah in two thousand eleven, Bessie in two thousand fifteen, Mudbound in two thousand seventeen, and The Last Thing He Wanted in two thousand twenty.

In addition to her work in film, Rees has made significant contributions to television, having written and directed episodes for notable series such as Empire, When We Rise, and Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams. Her versatility and talent have established her as a leading figure in the industry.

Rees made history as the first African-American woman nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for her work on Mudbound.
