Delcy Rodríguez

Delcy Rodríguez, born on May eighteenth, nineteen sixty-nine, in Caracas, Venezuela, is a prominent lawyer, diplomat, and politician. She has made history as the first woman to serve as the acting president of Venezuela since January fifth, twenty twenty-six, following the capture of then-president Nicolás Maduro by the United States. Rodríguez's political journey began in earnest after the failed coup against Hugo Chávez in two thousand two, alongside her brother Jorge, marking the start of her significant involvement in Venezuelan politics.

Rodríguez's academic background is rooted in law, having graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Central University of Venezuela in nineteen ninety-three. Her time at university was marked by her role as a student leader and activist. She furthered her education in labor law at Sorbonne University in Paris and studied social policy at Birkbeck, University of London, although she did not complete her degrees at these institutions.

Her political career saw her rise through various significant roles, including Minister for Presidential Affairs under President Chávez in two thousand six, and later as Minister of Popular Power for Communication and Information in two thousand thirteen. In two thousand fourteen, she was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position she held until two thousand seventeen, when she became the President of the Constituent National Assembly. In June of the following year, she was appointed vice president, a role she maintained while also serving as Minister of Economy and Finance from twenty twenty to twenty twenty-four, and as Minister of Petroleum and Hydrocarbons from twenty twenty-four.

On January third, twenty twenty-six, the political landscape shifted dramatically when the United States conducted strikes in Venezuela, leading to Maduro's capture. Rodríguez was sworn in as acting president just two days later, solidifying her place in history as the first woman to hold the presidency in Venezuela.
