Delia Owens

Delia Owens, born on April fourth, nineteen forty-nine, is an acclaimed American author, zoologist, and conservationist. She is widely recognized for her debut novel, Where the Crawdads Sing, released in two thousand eighteen, which has become one of the best-selling books of all time. Owens' literary success is complemented by her extensive background in zoology, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia and a PhD in animal behavior from the University of California, Davis.

Raised in southern Georgia, Owens developed a profound connection with the wilderness that would later influence her writing. Her journey into the world of zoology began when she met her future husband, Mark Owens, in a protozoology class during their graduate studies. The couple married in nineteen seventy-three and soon relocated to southern Africa, where they dedicated themselves to studying wildlife in the Kalahari Desert and Zambia. However, their time in Africa was not without controversy, as the couple faced expulsion from Botswana and became subjects of interest in a murder investigation in Zambia.
