Denis Bećirović, born on November twenty-eighth, nineteen seventy-five, in Tuzla, is a prominent Bosnian politician, professor, and historian. He has been serving as the eighth and current Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina since his election in 2022. In addition to this role, he has held the position of chairman of the Presidency since March twenty twenty-six.
Bećirović's political journey began in nineteen ninety-three when he joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP BiH), where he later became vice-president. His early career included teaching history at a primary school in Tuzla and working at the Secondary School of Economics from nineteen ninety-eight to two thousand two. He graduated from the University of Tuzla in nineteen ninety-eight and pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Sarajevo starting in two thousand.
His political career took off when he became a member of the Federal Parliament in nineteen ninety-eight. He subsequently served in various capacities, including the Tuzla Cantonal Assembly and the Federal House of Peoples. In the two thousand six general election, he was elected to the national House of Representatives. Although he ran for a seat in the Presidency in the two thousand eighteen general election, he was not elected, but he continued to serve in the national House of Peoples.
In the two thousand twenty-two general election, Bećirović successfully ran for the Presidency again, defeating former member Bakir Izetbegović. He was sworn in as a member of the Presidency in November of that year, marking a significant milestone in his political career.
