Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Denis Sassou Nguesso

Denis Sassou Nguesso, born on November twenty-third, nineteen forty-three, is a prominent Congolese politician and former military officer. He has held the presidency of the Republic of the Congo since nineteen ninety-seven, having previously served as the president of the People's Republic of the Congo from nineteen seventy-nine to nineteen ninety-two. His political journey has been marked by significant events and transformations in the Congolese political landscape.

During his first term as president, Sassou Nguesso led the Congolese Party of Labour (PCT) for twelve years. In nineteen ninety, he introduced multiparty politics, a pivotal moment in the country's history. However, his executive powers were curtailed by the National Conference in nineteen ninety-one, relegating him to a ceremonial role. He contested the presidential election in nineteen ninety-two but finished in third place.

After five years in opposition, Sassou Nguesso returned to power amid the turmoil of the Second Republic of the Congo Civil War, where his forces successfully ousted President Pascal Lissouba. Following a transitional period, he won the presidential election in two thousand, although it was characterized by low opposition participation. He was re-elected in two thousand nine, a year marked by personal tragedy with the deaths of his daughter Edith Lucie and her husband, Gabonese president Omar Bongo.

In two thousand fifteen, Sassou Nguesso passed a new constitution through a referendum, despite calls for a boycott and subsequent dismissal of the results by opposition leaders. This new constitution allowed him to seek another term, leading to his re-election in the presidential elections of two thousand sixteen, twenty twenty-one, and twenty twenty-six, all of which he won with a majority in the first round.
