Dennis Kwok, born on April 15, 1978, is a prominent Canadian lawyer and a former politician from Hong Kong. He served as a member of the Legislative Council, representing the legal constituency from 2012 until 2020. As a founding member of the Civic Party, Kwok played a significant role in advocating for democratic reforms in Hong Kong.
During his tenure, he held the position of Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, where he faced accusations of obstructing legislative proceedings. His political career took a dramatic turn on November 11, 2020, when he was disqualified from the Legislative Council by the Chinese government at the request of the Hong Kong authorities, alongside three other lawmakers from the pan-democratic camp. This disqualification led to a mass resignation of pan-democrats, effectively leaving the Legislative Council without a substantial opposition.
Following his disqualification, Kwok announced his resignation from politics and departed from Hong Kong. By April 2021, reports indicated that he had relocated to Canada and subsequently settled in the United States. His political challenges continued, as in July 2023, he was charged with collusion, prompting the Hong Kong Police to issue an arrest warrant with a bounty of one million Hong Kong dollars.
