Devendra Fadnavis, born on July 22, 1970, is a prominent Indian politician currently serving his third term as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra, a position he has held since December 5, 2024. His political journey is marked by significant milestones, including his tenure as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra alongside Ajit Pawar in the Eknath Shinde government from 2022 to 2024.
Fadnavis's political career began in earnest when he was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 1999, representing the Nagpur West constituency until 2009. He then transitioned to represent Nagpur South West, a role he has maintained since 2009. His leadership capabilities were recognized early on, as he became the Mayor of Nagpur from 1997 to 1999 and later served as the President of the BJP's Maharashtra state unit from 2013 to 2015.
Notably, Fadnavis became Chief Minister at the age of 44, making him the second-youngest individual to hold this office in Maharashtra's history, following Sharad Pawar. His political acumen was further tested during the 2019 Maharashtra political crisis, where he held the Chief Minister position for a brief five days before resigning on November 28, 2019. He has also played a crucial role as the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2022.
As a dedicated member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Fadnavis continues to influence Maharashtra's political landscape with his vision and leadership.
