Diana Cabrera

Diana Cabrera, born on March 18, 1984, is a talented Uruguayan-Canadian sports shooter who has made significant strides in the competitive shooting arena. Standing at 1.61 metres (5 ft 3 in) and weighing sixty-five kilograms (143 lb) in 2015, Cabrera's journey in shooting began in September 1999 at the Scarborough Rifle Club. Initially motivated by her father's concerns about his firearms collection due to an illness, she obtained a possession and acquisition licence (PAL) to help preserve it. Her natural aptitude for the sport quickly became evident, leading her to compete at various levels.

In 2006, while pursuing her studies at Centennial College, Cabrera proudly represented Canada at the Commonwealth Games in the 50-metre rifle discipline. However, she later chose to compete for Uruguay, her parents' homeland, which offered to cover her travel expenses for international competitions. Despite this change, Cabrera continued to reside and work in Canada, serving as the office manager for the Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA) from 2008 to 2013.

Cabrera's competitive spirit shone brightly at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, where she represented the Uruguayan national team. Her remarkable performance at the 2010 South American Games in Medellin earned her a bronze medal in the 50-metre rifle, prone event, marking a historic achievement as the first medal for Uruguay in this category. In 2012, she further showcased her skills at the XIX Campeonato Sudamericano de Tiro Deportivo in Buenos Aires, winning a silver medal in the 50m-prone event and securing a commendable third place overall.

Continuing her pursuit of excellence, Cabrera participated in both the World Championships and the American Championships in 2014. The following year, she represented Uruguay at the 2015 Pan American Games held in her hometown of Toronto, where she finished in twenty-first place in both the 10-metre air rifle and the 50-metre rifle events, demonstrating her resilience and dedication to the sport.
