Diane Bellemare

Diane Bellemare, born on October thirteenth, nineteen forty-nine, is a distinguished Canadian economist and politician hailing from Quebec. Her career in public service was marked by her appointment to the Senate of Canada on September sixth, two thousand twelve, where she served until reaching the mandatory retirement age of seventy-five on October thirteenth, two thousand twenty-four.

Before her tenure in the Senate, Bellemare held significant executive roles at the Conseil du patronat du Québec from September two thousand three to April two thousand seven. Notably, she served as Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist from April two thousand six to April two thousand seven, showcasing her expertise in economic matters.

Appointed to the Senate by Governor General David Johnston on the advice of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Bellemare initially aligned with the Conservative Party of Canada caucus. However, in March two thousand sixteen, she transitioned to sit as an Independent.
