Diane Borsato

Diane Borsato, a prominent Canadian visual artist born in 1973, is renowned for her innovative exploration of pedagogical practices and experiential knowledge through various mediums including performance, intervention, video, installation, and photography.

Her multidisciplinary approach often involves collaboration with diverse groups such as arts professionals, artists, and naturalists, resulting in socially engaged works that have been exhibited extensively across Canada and internationally. Notable venues include the Vancouver Art Gallery, Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, and the Musée d'Art Contemporain in Montreal, as well as galleries in the United States, France, Germany, Mexico, Taiwan, and Japan.

Borsato's contributions to the art world have earned her recognition as a Sobey Art Award nominee in two separate years, and she was honored with the Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award in two thousand eight for her research in the Inter-Arts category from the Canada Council for the Arts. In two thousand thirteen, she served as an artist in residence at The Art Gallery of Ontario, where she created engaging actions that brought the gallery's collections to life.

Currently, Borsato is an Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studio at the University of Guelph, where she teaches courses that delve into social and conceptual practices, including themes such as Food and Art and Outdoor School. Her work is often described as relational, interventionist, and performative, with Philip Monk, a curator and director, noting the complexity and intimacy of her art practice.
