Diane Tell, born on December twenty-fourth, nineteen fifty-nine, in Quebec City, Quebec, is a celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter. Her musical journey began at the tender age of six when she entered the Val d’Or conservatory, later continuing her studies at the Montréal conservatory and CEGEP Saint-Laurent. By the age of twelve, she had already begun writing her first songs, establishing herself as one of Québec's pioneering female singer-songwriters.
Throughout her illustrious career, Tell has released a remarkable repertoire across her first four albums, earning six Félix prizes before the age of twenty-five. These accolades include breakout artist, best artist, best album, best song, and twice being named songwriter of the year. Notably, her song 'Si j’étais un homme' was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in two thousand seventeen, and she received a MIDEM Award for her album 'Chimères' and a Victoire Award for 'Faire à nouveau connaissance.'
In nineteen ninety, she was selected by renowned figures Plamondon, Berger, and Savary to take on a leading role in the musical 'La légende de Jimmy.' Following this, she played the lead and composed the score for 'Marilyn Montreuil,' a production written and directed by Jérôme Savary at the Théâtre National du Chaillot in Paris. Over three hundred performances of both musicals were showcased across France and Europe.
Over the past twenty-five years, Tell has tirelessly toured and recorded in Canada, France, the U.K., and Switzerland. In two thousand nineteen, she produced her fifteenth studio album of original material in Montréal. As an independent artist, she manages her own publishing company, owns the phonographic rights to her entire catalogue, and self-produces her albums. Additionally, she is a talented photographer, directing most of her music videos.
In May two thousand eighteen, Tell was elected to SOCAN's Board of Directors for a three-year term and was re-elected in two thousand twenty-one. On July fifteenth, two thousand twenty-two, she was honored by Madame Rima Abdul Malak, the French Minister of Culture, with the rank of Chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres, a prestigious distinction in France. In two thousand twenty-four, she was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, further solidifying her legacy in the music industry.
