John Richard Bond, born in nineteen fifty in Toronto, Ontario, is a distinguished Canadian astrophysicist and cosmologist. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto in nineteen seventy-three, followed by a PhD in theoretical physics from Caltech in nineteen seventy-nine, where he was mentored by the esteemed William A. Fowler.
Since nineteen eighty-five, Bond has held a professorship at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA) and the University of Toronto. His leadership skills were recognized during his two five-year terms as CITA's director from nineteen ninety-six to two thousand six. Additionally, he has been at the helm of the Cosmology and Gravity Program for the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) since two thousand two.
Bond's research primarily focuses on the theoretical modeling of anisotropies in cosmic background radiation. His work has been pivotal in the field, especially since the nineteen nineties, as advancements in measuring these anisotropies have provided a solid foundation for contemporary cosmology and the understanding of cosmic structure evolution.
