Dion Fortune

Dion Fortune, born on December sixth, nineteen ninety, in Llandudno, Caernarfonshire, North Wales, emerged as a prominent British occultist, ceremonial magician, and writer. Raised in a wealthy upper middle-class family, her early life remains largely a mystery. By her teenage years, she had relocated to England's West Country, where she began her literary journey with two books of poetry. Her academic pursuits led her to the University of London, where she studied psychology and psychoanalysis, eventually working as a counselor in a psychotherapy clinic.

During the tumultuous years of the First World War, Fortune joined the Women's Land Army and ventured into entrepreneurship by establishing a company that sold soy milk products. Her fascination with esotericism blossomed through the teachings of the Theosophical Society, which eventually guided her to join an occult lodge led by Theodore Moriarty, followed by the Alpha et Omega organization. It was during this period that she believed she was contacted by two Ascended Masters, the Master Rakoczi and the Master Jesus, leading her to explore trance mediumship to channel their messages.

In nineteen twenty-two, Fortune and Charles Loveday claimed to have received a significant text, The Cosmic Doctrine, during a ceremonial contact with the Masters. Although she briefly served as president of the Christian Mystic Lodge of the Theosophical Society, she felt disillusioned by its lack of genuine Christian interest. This prompted her to establish the Community of the Inner Light, which later evolved into the Fraternity of the Inner Light. Together with Loveday, she set up bases in Glastonbury and Bayswater, London, launched a magazine, delivered public lectures, and actively promoted the growth of their society.

As the Second World War unfolded, Fortune organized a project of meditations and visualizations aimed at protecting Britain. She envisioned a forthcoming post-war Age of Aquarius, but tragically passed away from leukemia shortly after the war's conclusion. Today, Dion Fortune is regarded as one of the most significant occultists and ceremonial magicians of the early twentieth century. The Fraternity she founded continued to thrive, inspiring various groups based on her teachings, while her novels left a lasting impact on later occult and modern Pagan movements, including Wicca.
