Dipa Karmakar

Dipa Karmakar, born on August ninth, nineteen ninety-three, is a celebrated Indian former artistic gymnast who has made remarkable contributions to the sport. She is one of only five women globally to have successfully executed the Produnova vault, a feat that underscores her exceptional talent and dedication. Karmakar first captured the spotlight at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where she made history as the first Indian female gymnast to win a bronze medal.

Her journey to Olympic fame began when she qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the first Indian gymnast to reach an Olympic final. In a nail-biting performance, she finished fourth in the women's vault event, missing out on a medal by a mere zero point one five points. This achievement marked a significant milestone, as she was the first Indian female gymnast to compete in the Olympics and the first Indian gymnast in any discipline to participate since the nineteen sixty-four Summer Olympics.

In July two thousand eighteen, Karmakar achieved another historic milestone by winning a gold medal at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Mersin, Turkey, making her the first Indian gymnast to secure a gold at a global event. Her prowess in gymnastics has not only earned her accolades but also recognition, including the prestigious Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award for her outstanding performance at the Rio Olympics.
