Dixie Bibb Graves, born on July twenty-sixth, eighteen eighty-two, was a pioneering American politician and a dedicated suffragette. Her remarkable journey in public service began as the First Lady of Alabama, where she played a significant role in advocating for women's rights and social reforms.

In a historic moment for the state, Graves became the first woman to serve as a United States senator from Alabama, marking her as only the fourth woman to join the ranks of the U.S. Senate. This groundbreaking achievement came in August nineteen thirty-seven when she was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Senator Hugo Black, who resigned to take a position on the U.S. Supreme Court.
