Do-Aklin

Do-Aklin, a pivotal figure in the history of the Fon Kingdom of Dahomey, is often regarded as its founder, despite the kingdom's establishment occurring posthumously. His legacy is steeped in folklore, with scant historical records detailing his life and contributions.

Circa sixteen hundred and twenty, Do-Aklin is believed to have settled a significant group of Aja people from Allada on the Abomey plateau. This settlement marked a crucial moment in the region's history, as it laid the groundwork for the future development of the kingdom.

Although much of what is known about Do-Aklin is intertwined with myth, his influence is undeniable. His son, Dakodonu, would later construct a palace on the plateau, further solidifying the foundations of the Kingdom of Dahomey and its royal lineage, known as the Aladaxonou dynasty.
