Dollard St. Laurent

Joseph Dollard Herve St. Laurent, born on May 12, 1929, was a distinguished Canadian ice hockey defenceman whose career spanned over a decade in the National Hockey League. He began his professional journey with the Montreal Canadiens in 1951, where he quickly made a name for himself. St. Laurent's tenure with the Canadiens was marked by remarkable success, as he contributed to four Stanley Cup victories during his eight years with the team.

Before joining the NHL, St. Laurent honed his skills with the Jr. Canadiens in the Quebec Junior Hockey League from 1947 to 1949. His offensive prowess and defensive capabilities caught the attention of the Royal Montreal Hockey Club, where he played from 1949 to 1952. His time there allowed him to refine his game, leading to his eventual promotion to the Canadiens.

St. Laurent's defensive style was integral to the Canadiens' success in the 1950s, particularly during their championship runs in 1956, 1957, and 1958. After achieving significant milestones with Montreal, he was traded to the Chicago Black Hawks, where he played a crucial role in ending the team's championship drought by winning the Stanley Cup in 1961.

His career faced a setback when he suffered a leg injury while playing for the Quebec Aces in the American Hockey League, ultimately leading to his retirement at the end of the 1962 season. Off the ice, St. Laurent married Jessie FitzPatrick on May 17, 1952, and they shared a life until her passing in 1993. Dollard St. Laurent passed away on April 6, 2015, at the age of eighty-five, leaving behind a legacy in the world of ice hockey.
