Spring's collegiate career was highlighted by his achievements with the University of Alberta Golden Bears, where he celebrated two national championships. His talent on the ice earned him a spot on the Canadian national team, allowing him to represent his country at the nineteen eighty Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, where he contributed with one assist over six games.

In nineteen eighty, Spring embarked on his National Hockey League journey with the Winnipeg Jets, where he would spend his entire professional career until the end of the nineteen eighty-four season. Notably, he holds the unique record for the most career games played in the NHL, totaling two hundred fifty-nine, by a player who scored only one goal.

After his time in the NHL, Spring concluded his playing career with a season at EHC Essen-West in West Germany. Today, he serves as the president of Spring Fuel Distributors Inc. in Kelowna, British Columbia, continuing to make an impact off the ice.
