Donald H. Peterson

Donald H. Peterson, born on October 22, 1933, is a distinguished figure in the realms of military service, engineering, and space exploration. As a United States Air Force officer, he laid the groundwork for a remarkable career that would eventually lead him to the stars.

In September 1969, Peterson transitioned to NASA after being selected for the Air Force Manned Orbiting Laboratory (MOL) program, which was ultimately canceled. His journey with NASA culminated in his role as a mission specialist on STS-6 aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger, where he made significant contributions to space science.

During the STS-6 mission, Peterson conducted a spacewalk to test innovative airlock systems and space suits, showcasing his engineering expertise and commitment to advancing human spaceflight.
