Donald Malcolm McRae, a distinguished legal scholar, was born in Napier, New Zealand in nineteen forty-four. He has made significant contributions to the field of law, particularly in the areas of fisheries, oceans, and international law. Currently, he serves as a faculty member at the University of Ottawa, where his expertise continues to shape the next generation of legal minds.

Before his tenure at the University of Ottawa, McRae was a professor of law at the University of British Columbia. His extensive knowledge and experience led to his selection as a panel judge for pivotal discussions surrounding the Canada–United States Free Trade Agreement and the Israel–United States Free Trade Agreement.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the legal field, McRae was appointed a companion of the Order of Canada by Governor General David Lloyd Johnston on the twenty-sixth of December, two thousand fourteen. Additionally, he was honored as an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year’s Honours List of two thousand seventeen.
