Dong Zhuo

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Dong Zhuo

Dong Zhuo, born on April first in the year one hundred thirty-nine, emerged as a formidable figure during the late Eastern Han dynasty. Originally hailing from Liang Province, he rose through the ranks to become a military general and a powerful minister within the imperial government. His ascent to power was marked by the chaos that ensued following the death of Emperor Ling of Han, which led to a violent purge of the eunuch faction by court officials.

In the year one hundred eighty-nine, seizing the opportunity presented by the turmoil in the imperial court, Dong Zhuo took control of the capital city of Luoyang. He swiftly deposed the young Emperor Shao, Liu Bian, and installed his half-brother, the puppet Emperor Xian, effectively making himself the de facto ruler of China. Under his rule, the Eastern Han dynasty existed in name only, as Dong Zhuo's governance was characterized by extreme cruelty and tyranny.

However, his reign was short-lived. In the following year, a coalition of regional officials and warlords united against him, launching a campaign to overthrow his tyrannical rule. Unable to withstand the coalition forces, Dong Zhuo abandoned Luoyang, retreating further west to the ancient capital of Chang'an, located in present-day Xi'an, Shaanxi province.

Ultimately, Dong Zhuo's reign came to a violent end in May of one hundred ninety-two when he was assassinated by his own subordinate, Lü Bu. This act was part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Interior Minister Wang Yun, marking the conclusion of a tumultuous chapter in Chinese history.
