Dóra Maurer

Dóra Maurer, born on June eleventh, nineteen thirty-seven, is a distinguished Hungarian visual artist whose career has spanned over five decades. Renowned for her contributions to conceptual art and geometric abstraction, Maurer has worked across various mediums, including drawing, printmaking, photography, film, painting, installation, and performance. Her innovative systems-based artworks delve into themes of transformation, seriality, and the perception of movement and time.

Gaining prominence in the nineteen seventies, Maurer became associated with the Central and Eastern European neo-avant-garde through her experimental works. As her career progressed, she increasingly focused on geometric painting and developed rule-based visual systems inspired by mathematical structures, showcasing her unique approach to art.

In addition to her artistic practice, Maurer has made significant contributions to education and the art community as a professor emerita at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest.
