Dorothea of Brandenburg

Dorothea of Brandenburg, born in the year one thousand four hundred thirty, was a prominent figure in the history of Scandinavia as the consort of two kings, Christopher III and Christian I of Denmark. Her role extended beyond that of a queen; she was a pivotal player in the political landscape of the Kalmar Union, which united Denmark, Norway, and Sweden under a single crown.

During the interregnum in one thousand four hundred forty-eight, Dorothea stepped into the role of interim regent, showcasing her leadership abilities at a time of uncertainty. Later, she served as regent in the absence of her second husband, Christian I, further solidifying her influence in the governance of the union.

Her marriage to Christian I produced three surviving children: John, Margaret, and Frederick. John would go on to serve as king of the union, while both of her sons ascended to the thrones of Denmark and Norway, ensuring the continuation of her legacy within the royal lineage.
