Dorothy Hyman

Dorothy Hyman, born on May ninth, nineteen forty-one, is a celebrated English retired sprinter known for her remarkable achievements on the track. Competing in the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics, she showcased her talent in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and the 4 × 100 meters relay, earning three prestigious medals that solidified her status as a top athlete.

Her prowess was further highlighted at the 1962 European Championships in Belgrade, where she clinched the gold medal in the 100 meters and a silver in the 200 meters. Representing England, Hyman completed an impressive sprint double in the 100 yards and 220 yards at the same year's Commonwealth Games, demonstrating her versatility and speed.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to women's athletics, she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the nineteen sixty-five Birthday Honours. Hyman's legacy continues to inspire, with a stadium in her home village of Cudworth named in her honour. Additionally, she was awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in nineteen sixty-three and was inducted into the England Athletics Hall of Fame in two thousand eleven.
