Doug Anakin

Doug Anakin, born on November sixth, nineteen thirty in Chatham, Ontario, was a distinguished Canadian bobsledder and luger. He made his mark in the world of winter sports as a member of Canada's gold medal-winning four-man bobsleigh team at the nineteen sixty-four Winter Olympics, under the guidance of coach Vic Emery. Anakin's contributions extended beyond competition; he was a pivotal figure in the development of the Canadian luge program.

In recognition of his achievements, Anakin was inducted into both Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, celebrating his legacy in the realm of sports. His passion for athletics was matched by his dedication to education, as he taught for nineteen years at John Abbott College in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, retiring in nineteen ninety.

To honor his commitment to the community and his love for outdoor activities, the college established the 'Doug Anakin Scholarship for Outdoor Pursuits.' This award is presented annually to a student who exemplifies the qualities that Anakin embodied throughout his life.

In addition to his teaching career, Anakin owned Doug Anakin Sports in Beaconsfield, a store specializing in outdoor sports equipment. He was a family man, married with two children and four grandchildren. Doug Anakin passed away in Invermere, British Columbia, in twenty twenty at the age of eighty-nine, leaving behind a rich legacy in both sports and education.
