Doug Sharp, born on November twenty-seventh, nineteen sixty-nine, is a multifaceted American athlete known for his remarkable achievements in bobsledding, ice hockey, and athletics. Competing from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, Sharp made a significant mark in the world of bobsleigh, clinching a bronze medal in the four-man event at the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City.
Before his foray into bobsledding, Sharp showcased his athletic prowess in track and field, particularly in the pole vault. He narrowly missed qualifying for the United States Olympic trials for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Additionally, he played American football as a Strong Safety, receiving twenty-one college football offers from prestigious schools, including Kansas and Eastern Michigan. However, he chose to focus on track and field at Purdue University, where he graduated in nineteen ninety-three.
At the time of the 2002 Winter Olympics, Sharp was also serving as an assistant athletics coach at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. In two thousand eight, Doug married Carrie Weil, an Emmy Award-winning journalist and morning news anchor for WAVE TV3 in Louisville. The couple relocated to Bay City, Michigan, in two thousand ten, and currently resides in Gladeville, Tennessee. Sharp is now teaching seventh-grade science at Gladeville Middle School and serves as an assistant coach for the school's football team. Carrie Sharp is an evening news anchor for WTVF-TV in Nashville, Tennessee. Together, they have two sons and a niece named Shelby.
