Drest X

Drest X, a notable figure in Scottish history, reigned as the king of the Picts from the year eight hundred forty-five until his demise in eight hundred forty-eight. His reign was marked by rivalry with Kenneth MacAlpin, known in Gaelic as Cináed mac Ailpín, a significant player in the power struggles of the time.

According to the Pictish Chronicle, Drest was the son of Uurad, a lineage that connects him to the ancient rulers of the Pictish kingdom. His rule came to a tragic end at Scone, an event that would later be referred to as MacAlpin's Treason, marking him as the last king of the Picts.

Despite the limited information available about Drest X, one intriguing detail stands out. In the ancient graveyard of St Vigeans located in Forfarshire, there exists a stone inscribed with a unique Celtic manuscript. This stone, described by the late Sir James Simpson, bears the inscription: 'The stone of Drost, son of Voret, of the race of Fergus.' This inscription likely commemorates Drest, son of Ferat, further linking him to the rich tapestry of Pictish history.
