Droupadi Murmu, born on June twentieth, nineteen fifty-eight, is a prominent Indian politician and educator who has made history as the current president of India since two thousand twenty-two. Her election victory was supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking her as the first individual from a tribal community to ascend to this esteemed office. Additionally, she is the second woman to hold the presidency, following Pratibha Patil, and at sixty-four, she is the youngest person to occupy this role, as well as the first president born in independent India.

Before her presidency, Murmu served as the governor of Jharkhand from two thousand fifteen to two thousand twenty-one, making her the longest-serving governor in the state's history. Her political career began with her election to the Odisha Legislative Assembly, representing the Rairangpur constituency from two thousand to two thousand nine. She also held the position of Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Government of Odisha from two thousand to two thousand four.

Murmu's journey into politics was preceded by her work in the State Irrigation and Power Department as a clerk from nineteen seventy-nine to nineteen eighty-three. Following this, she dedicated her time to education, serving as a teacher in Rairangpur from nineteen ninety-four until nineteen ninety-seven. Her diverse experiences have shaped her into a leader committed to public service and the empowerment of marginalized communities.
