Dru Drury, born on February fourth, seventeen twenty-five, was a notable British silversmith and entomologist whose contributions to natural history are still recognized today.
As a dedicated collector of natural history specimens, Drury established a vast network that included ship's officers and collectors from around the globe, notably collaborating with Henry Smeathman. This extensive collection played a crucial role in the work of many contemporary entomologists, who relied on his specimens to describe and name new species.
Drury's most significant work, 'Illustrations of Natural History,' was published in parts from seventeen seventy to seventeen eighty-two. This influential book features detailed names and descriptions of numerous insects, with many of the exquisite copperplate engravings crafted by the talented Moses Harris.
