Dušan Bajević, born on December tenth, nineteen forty-eight, is a distinguished Bosnian football manager and former player, celebrated as one of the greatest football managers in Bosnia's history. His remarkable career is highlighted by his status as the most decorated manager in the country.
Bajević dedicated the majority of his playing years to his hometown club, Velež Mostar, where he made nearly four hundred appearances and netted one hundred eighty-four goals, setting a club record. His talent took him to AEK Athens from nineteen seventy-seven to nineteen eighty-one, where he achieved significant success, winning the Alpha Ethniki twice and the Greek Cup once, while also becoming the club's all-time leading foreign scorer with ninety-one goals.
On the international stage, Bajević represented Yugoslavia, scoring twenty-nine goals in thirty-seven matches and participating in the nineteen seventy-four FIFA World Cup. After hanging up his boots, he transitioned into management, leading Velež to a Yugoslav Cup victory in nineteen eighty-six.
His managerial career flourished in Greece, where he secured eight Greek league titles, four Greek Cups, one Greek League Cup, and one Greek Super Cup with AEK Athens, Olympiacos, and PAOK between nineteen eighty-eight and two thousand five. Notably, he is recognized as the most successful manager in AEK Athens' history, despite the controversy surrounding his direct move to Olympiacos in nineteen ninety-six, which ultimately ushered in a period of domestic dominance.
Bajević's journey saw him return to AEK Athens multiple times, including stints in two thousand two and two thousand eight, and later as a sporting director in two thousand thirteen, following the club's relegation.
