Dwight Ball

Dwight Ball, born on December twenty-first, nineteen fifty-seven, is a prominent Canadian politician who served as the thirteenth premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. His tenure spanned from December fourteen, two thousand fifteen, to August nineteen, two thousand twenty. Ball represented the Humber Valley electoral district in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly and was the leader of the Liberal Party from November seventeenth, two thousand thirteen, until August third, two thousand twenty.

Ball's political journey began when he took on the role of Leader of the Official Opposition and interim leader of the Liberal Party on January third, two thousand twelve. He later stepped down from the interim position on July fifth, two thousand thirteen, to contest for the leadership permanently in the party's leadership election, which he successfully won.

Under his leadership, the Liberal Party achieved a significant victory in the two thousand fifteen election, securing a thirty-one seat majority government. His government was re-elected in two thousand nineteen, albeit as a minority government. However, on February seventeenth, two thousand twenty, Ball announced his intention to resign.

Following a virtual convention held on August third, two thousand twenty, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Ball was succeeded by Andrew Furey, who officially took over the premiership on August nineteenth, two thousand twenty.
