Dwight Walton, born on March twenty-fifth, nineteen sixty-five, is a distinguished former basketball player and current coach hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His basketball journey commenced at Wagar High School in nineteen seventy-nine, where he was mentored by Don McEwen and Jim Aiken, culminating in his high school diploma in nineteen eighty-two. He further honed his skills at Dawson College, earning All Canadian honors in nineteen eighty-six before transferring to Siena College, where he was recognized as the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year during the nineteen eighty-six to eighty-seven season.
Walton's collegiate career continued at the Florida Institute of Technology from nineteen eighty-seven to nineteen ninety-one, where he achieved the status of a three-time All American and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Management. His contributions to the sport were acknowledged with his induction into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame, the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame, and his selection to the Sunshine State Conference twenty-fifth Anniversary Team.
In nineteen eighty-six, Dwight received an invitation from the legendary Coach Jack Donahue to try out for the Canadian National Basketball Team, a team he proudly represented until nineteen ninety-five. His participation in major international competitions, including the nineteen eighty-eight Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, stands out as a pinnacle of his career, a testament to his dedication and skill.
After a successful professional career spanning multiple countries, including four seasons in Israel and six years in Switzerland, Walton retired from professional basketball in two thousand four. He transitioned into education, working as a Student Supervisor for the English Montreal School Board while also coaching at John F. Kennedy High School and Lester B. Pearson High School. Since two thousand seventeen, he has served as an Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball Program at Concordia University.
In addition to his coaching role, Dwight is a basketball analyst for various media outlets in Canada, having started at Team nine hundred ninety, now known as TSN six hundred ninety. He also serves as the Color Commentator for the Montreal Alliance of the Canadian Elite Basketball League and is the General Manager for the Los Angeles Ignite of The Basketball League. A part-time referee in recreational and prep school leagues, Walton remains deeply involved in the basketball community. Recognized for his contributions, he was named a Jamaican Hero by the Jamaican Association of Montreal in two thousand eighteen and selected for the “Dreamer’s Circle” by Canada Basketball in twenty twenty-three.
