Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, born on July twenty-second, nineteen ninety-three, is an American domestic terrorist and mass murderer of Chechen and Avar descent. He gained notoriety for his involvement in the Boston Marathon bombing on April fifteenth, two thousand thirteen, alongside his older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The brothers planted pressure cooker bombs near the finish line, resulting in the tragic deaths of three individuals and injuring hundreds more.

Tsarnaev's early life was spent in Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Republic of Dagestan before he and his family relocated to the United States in two thousand two. Settling in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he later became a U.S. citizen. He graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in two thousand eleven and subsequently enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Dzhokhar has one brother, Tamerlan, and two sisters.

On April eighteenth, two thousand thirteen, the FBI released images of the Tsarnaev brothers as suspects in the bombing, prompting a public appeal for information. That same evening, the brothers shot and killed MIT Police Officer Sean Collier and committed a carjacking. Following a violent confrontation with law enforcement, Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed, while Dzhokhar was apprehended after being discovered hiding in a boat in Watertown, Massachusetts, on April nineteenth.

During his interrogation, Tsarnaev admitted to his role in the bombing and revealed plans to detonate explosives in New York City's Times Square. He was subsequently tried and convicted on thirty counts, receiving a death sentence. However, this sentence was vacated on appeal in July two thousand twenty, only to be reinstated by the U.S. Supreme Court in March two thousand twenty-two. As of two thousand twenty-five, he remains on death row at ADX Florence federal supermax prison in Colorado.
