Eddie Arcaro

Eddie Arcaro, born on February nineteenth, nineteen sixteen, in Cincinnati, Ohio, emerged from humble beginnings as the son of Italian immigrants. His father, Pasquale, worked various jobs, including as a taxi driver and during Prohibition, operated an illegal liquor enterprise. Arcaro's early life was marked by challenges, including being born prematurely and weighing just three pounds, which left him smaller than his peers.

Despite his diminutive stature, reaching a height of five feet two inches, Arcaro found his calling in horse racing. His journey began at the age of sixteen when he won his first race at the Agua Caliente racetrack in Tijuana, Mexico, in nineteen thirty-two. This victory marked the start of a legendary career that would see him become one of the most celebrated jockeys in American Thoroughbred horse racing history.
