Eddie Hopkinson

Eddie Hopkinson, born on October twenty-ninth, nineteen thirty-five, in Wheatley Hill, near Peterlee, County Durham, was a distinguished English football goalkeeper. His career spanned several decades, during which he became a prominent figure in the sport, particularly known for his time at Bolton Wanderers.

Hopkinson's club career began at Oldham Athletic before he made a significant impact at Bolton Wanderers from August nineteen fifty-two to November nineteen sixty-nine. He holds the remarkable record for the most appearances for the club, having played in five hundred seventy-eight matches. His contributions on the field were recognized at the national level, earning him fourteen caps for the England national football team between nineteen fifty-seven and nineteen fifty-nine, during which he served as the reserve goalkeeper at the nineteen fifty-eight FIFA World Cup.

In addition to his international appearances, Hopkinson also represented England at the Under-23 level, earning six caps. His crowning achievement came in nineteen fifty-eight when he won an FA Cup winners medal, notably keeping a clean sheet against the formidable Manchester United.

After his playing days, Hopkinson transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant trainer at Bolton Wanderers before taking on the role of assistant manager at Stockport County in nineteen seventy-four.
