Edem Kodjo

Édouard Kodjovi, known as Edem Kodjo, was born on May 23, 1938, in Togo. He emerged as a significant figure in Togolese politics and diplomacy, leaving an indelible mark on the African continent. His career was highlighted by his role as the Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Unity from 1978 to 1983, where he championed unity and cooperation among African nations.

In the wake of Togo's transition to multi-party politics, Kodjo became a prominent opposition leader, advocating for democratic reforms and political pluralism. His leadership was further solidified when he served as Prime Minister from 1994 to 1996 and again from 2005 to 2006, during which he worked tirelessly to address the challenges facing his country.

As the President of the Patriotic Pan-African Convergence (CPP), Kodjo was instrumental in shaping the political landscape of Togo. His commitment to the principles of democracy and governance earned him respect both domestically and internationally.

Edem Kodjo passed away on April 11, 2020, in Paris, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to public service and a vision for a united Africa.
