Edgar V. Saks

Edgar V. Saks, born on January twenty-fifth, nineteen ten, was a notable Estonian amateur historian, politician, and writer. His dedication to the study of history and education was exemplified during his tenure as the minister of education in the Estonian exile government, a role he held from nineteen seventy-one until his passing.

One of Saks' most significant contributions to historical literature is his book, The Estonian Vikings: a Treatise on Finno-Ugric Viking Activities. In this work, he explores the ancient history of Estonians and other Finnic peoples along the Baltic Sea, shedding light on their cultural heritage and historical significance.

Saks was also known for his etymological studies, which proposed the existence of extensive prehistoric Estonian settlements across Northern Europe. In his work Esto-Europa, he identified Baltic-Finnic influences in various European regions, suggesting a broader impact of Finnic culture beyond its traditional boundaries.

Despite his ambitious theories, many of Saks' works have faced criticism for relying on outdated or incorrect sources, leading some scholars to categorize them as pseudohistory. Linguist Urmas Sutrop notably described him as a 'fantasiser and author of pseudoscientific history books,' highlighting the contentious nature of his contributions to the field.
