Edith Campbell

Edith Campbell, born on December twelfth, eighteen seventy-one, was a distinguished Canadian nurse whose contributions during the First World War left a lasting impact. She was among the first Canadian nurses to arrive in England, where she played a pivotal role in establishing the Duchess of Connaught Canadian Red Cross Hospital, a vital field hospital located in Taplow, Buckinghamshire.

Her dedication to the medical field did not stop there; Edith later served on the Western Front, where her bravery and commitment to her patients earned her significant accolades. She was awarded the Royal Red Cross, first class, and the Military Medal, and was mentioned in despatches on two occasions, highlighting her exceptional service and dedication.

After the war, Edith continued her commitment to nursing as the superintendent of the Toronto Branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses. Her legacy is preserved through her medals and personal items, which are now held by the Canadian War Museum, serving as a testament to her remarkable life and service.
