Edmundo Farolan

Edmundo Farolan, a distinguished Filipino-Canadian author, was born in Manila in nineteen forty-three. His literary journey began in the 1960s while he was studying philosophy and letters in Madrid, where he garnered several awards as a young writer-scholar. Farolan's academic pursuits led him to teach English, Spanish, and Media at various prestigious institutions, including Webster University Thailand, University of Silesia in the Czech Republic, and the University of Toronto.

He holds a bachelor's degree from Ateneo de Manila University, a Licenciatura from Universidad Central de Madrid, a master's degree in Hispanic Studies from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in Speech Communication from Bowling Green State University. His diverse educational background has significantly influenced his contributions to literature and academia.

In addition to his teaching career, Farolan has made his mark in the performing arts, acting and directing for the Vancouver Actors' Theater and the Vancouver Experimental Theatre. He is also the founding editor of ReviewVancouver and Revista Filipina, showcasing his commitment to the arts and entertainment scene.

Farolan's literary accolades include the prestigious Premio Zobel in nineteen eighty-two, awarded for his exceptional work in Spanish literature. As a senior correspondent for the Real Academia de la Lengua Española in the Philippines, he is recognized as a leading authority in the field. His extensive body of work includes poetry, anthologies, textbooks, and translations, with publications in both Spanish and English.

From two thousand two to two thousand twelve, he lectured at various universities across Europe and beyond, including the Université de Bretagne Occidentale in France and the Universidad Catolica del Norte in Chile. In two thousand seventeen, he was honored with the Premio José Rizal de las Letras Filipinas, further solidifying his legacy in the literary world.
