Édouard Mendy

Édouard Mendy, born on March 1, 1992, in France, is a distinguished professional footballer who currently serves as the captain and goalkeeper for Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli. His journey in football began in his homeland, where he honed his skills at the Le Havre academy before embarking on a professional career with Cherbourg in 2011.

After facing challenges, including being released in 2014 and contemplating leaving the sport, Mendy found a new opportunity with Marseille's reserves. His perseverance paid off as he established himself as a reliable goalkeeper at Reims and Rennes, showcasing his talent and determination.

In 2020, Mendy made a significant move to Chelsea in the Premier League for a reported fee of twenty-two million pounds. He quickly became a key player, making history as the first African goalkeeper to represent the club's senior team. His remarkable performance included keeping sixteen clean sheets in the Premier League and equalling the record for the most clean sheets in a UEFA Champions League season with nine, culminating in a clean sheet during the final that secured Chelsea's second title.

Internationally, Mendy initially represented Guinea-Bissau but later switched allegiance to Senegal, where he became the first-choice goalkeeper. He played a pivotal role in Senegal's journey to the runners-up finish in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and was instrumental in their victory in the 2021 tournament, earning the title of the best goalkeeper.
