Eduard von Toll

Eduard Gustav Freiherr von Toll, born on March second, eighteen fifty-eight, was a distinguished Russian geologist and Arctic explorer. Known in Russia as Eduard Vasilyevich Toll, he made significant contributions to the fields of paleontology, zoology, and geology. His passion for exploration and natural sciences led him to become a prominent figure in the study of the Arctic regions.

In the early twentieth century, von Toll spearheaded the Russian polar expedition from nineteen hundred to nineteen hundred two, embarking on a quest to uncover the elusive Sannikov Land, a mythical island believed to be situated off the Arctic coast of Russia. Tragically, during this expedition, von Toll and a small group of fellow explorers vanished from Bennett Island on October twenty-six, nineteen hundred two.
