Edward Kidd

Edward Kidd, born on September ninth, eighteen forty-nine, was a prominent figure in Ontario's political and agricultural landscape. Hailing from Oxford Township in Canada West, he was the son of William Kidd and received his education in Burritt's Rapids. His career spanned various roles, including that of a farmer and cheesemaker, where he owned multiple cheese factories in Carleton County.

Kidd's political journey began with his election as a Conservative member representing Carleton in the House of Commons of Canada. His tenure lasted from nineteen hundred to nineteen hundred five and again from nineteen hundred nine to nineteen hundred twelve. Notably, he resigned his seat in nineteen hundred five to facilitate the entry of Robert Borden, the party leader, into the House.

In addition to his role in federal politics, Kidd was actively involved in local governance, serving on the council for North Gower Township and Carleton County. His commitment to public service was evident throughout his life, culminating in his untimely death while still in office in nineteen hundred twelve.

Edward Kidd's legacy is further enriched by his familial connections; his cousin, George Nelson Kidd, represented Carleton in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario during the same era, while his nephew, Thomas Ashmore Kidd, later served as the speaker for the Ontario legislature. In recognition of his contributions, a residential road in North Gower bears his name: Edward Kidd Crescent.
