Edward Lowassa

Edward Lowassa, born on August twenty-six, nineteen fifty-three, is a prominent Tanzanian politician and former minister. He served as the Prime Minister of Tanzania from two thousand five to two thousand eight, under the presidency of Jakaya Kikwete. His tenure was marked by a significant event in Tanzanian political history, as he became the first Prime Minister to resign due to a fraud scandal, a move that led to the dissolution of the cabinet by President Kikwete in accordance with the Constitution.

Following his resignation, Lowassa's political journey took a pivotal turn. In the lead-up to the October two thousand fifteen presidential election, he faced a setback when the ruling party, CCM, did not select him as its candidate. In a bold move, he left the party and opted to run as an opposition candidate, showcasing his resilience and determination to remain a key player in Tanzanian politics.
