Egil Danielsen

Egil Danielsen, born on November ninth, nineteen thirty-three, was a remarkable Norwegian javelin thrower who made his mark in the world of athletics. Competing in the nineteen fifty-six and nineteen sixty Olympics, he achieved a historic gold medal victory in the nineteen fifty-six games, setting a new world record with a throw of eighty-five point seventy-one meters. This achievement was made possible with the help of his Polish friend Janusz Sidło, who lent him a modern steel javelin, while Michel Macquet provided a cup of strong coffee to boost his performance.

Before his illustrious javelin career, Danielsen was an avid cross-country skier. His transition to javelin throwing was marked by his dedication to improving his skills, which included taking fencing lessons from a top Norwegian fencer to enhance his flexibility and reflexes. His athletic prowess earned him the title of Norwegian Sportsperson of the Year in nineteen fifty-six, a testament to his exceptional talent and hard work.

Throughout his career, Danielsen faced challenges, including a tenth-place finish at the nineteen fifty-four European Championships and a silver medal in nineteen fifty-eight, where he finished behind Sidło. He dominated the national scene, becoming the Norwegian champion from nineteen fifty-three to nineteen fifty-seven, showcasing his consistency and skill in the sport.

After retiring from competitive athletics following the nineteen sixty Olympics, Danielsen shifted his focus to family life and his career at the Hamar Fire Brigade. In the two-thousands, he ventured into politics as a minor candidate for the Norwegian Pensioner Party, demonstrating his commitment to serving his community beyond the realm of sports.
