Egtved Girl

The Egtved Girl, a remarkable figure from the Nordic Bronze Age, was discovered in 1921 near Egtved, Denmark. Her well-preserved remains provide a fascinating glimpse into the past, revealing much about her life and the era she lived in. Estimated to have been between sixteen and eighteen years old at the time of her death, she stood at a height of one hundred sixty centimeters, or approximately sixty-three inches.

Her burial site, a barrow measuring around thirty meters in width and four meters in height, contained not only her remains but also the cremated remains of a child. This poignant detail adds a layer of complexity to her story, suggesting connections to family or community that extend beyond her own life.

Notably, the Egtved Girl's physical characteristics were striking; she had short, blond hair and well-trimmed nails, which have survived the ages alongside her hair, brain, teeth, and a small portion of her skin. Dendrochronological dating places her burial around one thousand three hundred seventy BC, situating her firmly within a significant period of human history.
