EJ Obiena

EJ Obiena, born on November 17, 1995, is a distinguished Filipino pole vaulter who has made significant strides in the world of athletics. As of August 12, 2025, he is ranked world No. 5 in men's pole vault by the World Athletics Rankings, showcasing his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.

Obiena has etched his name in the record books by holding the Asian record with a remarkable clearance of six meters at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, where he also earned a silver medal. His prowess is further highlighted by his Philippine national record of five point ninety-three meters, achieved at the Golden Rooftop Challenge in Innsbruck, Austria, on September 11, 2021.

In addition to his record-breaking performances, Obiena is the reigning champion and record holder of the Asian Games with a clearance of five point ninety meters. He has also secured his position as a two-time defending champion and current record holder in the Asian Athletics Championships with a height of five point ninety-one meters, as well as a three-time defending champion in the SEA Games with a record of five point sixty-five meters.

His accolades include a gold medal at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy, and participation in both the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics.
