Elana Meyer

Elana Meyer, born on October tenth, nineteen sixty-six, is a distinguished South African long-distance runner renowned for her remarkable achievements in marathon and road running events. She gained international acclaim when she secured the silver medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1992 Summer Olympics, showcasing her exceptional talent on a global stage.

In November nineteen ninety-one, Meyer set the African record for 15 kilometres road running with an impressive time of forty-six minutes and fifty-seven seconds in Cape Town. This record stood until it was equalled by Ethiopia's Mestawet Tufa in two thousand eight and later surpassed by Tirunesh Dibaba in two thousand nine, who set a new world record.

Additionally, Meyer established the African record for the half marathon, clocking in at one hour, six minutes, and forty-four seconds in January nineteen ninety-nine in Tokyo. This record was eventually broken by Mary Keitany of Kenya at the two thousand nine IAAF World Half Marathon Championships.

Her accolades include a gold medal at the 1994 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, and she set world records in this event during the years nineteen ninety-one, nineteen ninety-seven, nineteen ninety-eight, and nineteen ninety-nine.
