Eldon George

Eldon George, born on May tenth, nineteen thirty-one, is a distinguished Canadian geologist and fossil collector whose passion for the natural world has led to remarkable discoveries along the shores of Minas Basin and the Bay of Fundy. Beginning his fossil and mineral hunting career in the nineteen forties, George has dedicated decades to uncovering the secrets of the earth.

In nineteen eighty-four, George made headlines when he discovered the world's smallest dinosaur tracks near Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. This significant find, along with a diverse array of fossilized amphibian and dinosaur prints, is proudly displayed at his Parrsboro Rock and Mineral Shop and Museum. Among his notable discoveries is a seventeen-inch track that may belong to a primitive, two-legged, crocodile-like creature measuring nearly twenty feet in length.

George's fascination with mineralogy has also made him a prominent advocate for stilbite, which he champions as Nova Scotia's provincial mineral. His contributions to the field extend beyond his discoveries; they have been featured in esteemed publications such as The Christian Science Monitor, The New York Times, and National Geographic.

Additionally, George's expertise and passion for geology were showcased in the five-part CBC Television series Geologic Journey, narrated by the renowned David Suzuki.
